Autumn in the Garden

After the lush green of summer with its bright colours it is nice to watch the garden change into the warm mellow colours of Autumn.  Borders should be planned to capture the richness of red, orange, brown and gold and dress the garden through to Winter

Autumn sunlight sparkles on the leaves of Gunnera tinctoria clothing the banks of a still, reflective pond.

Aster flowers attract lots of wildlife in the last few warm and sunny days of the year

Despite the constant battle with fallen leaves, the rich colours of turning deciduous trees and shrubs can't fail to please the eye. Here they look especially bright set against a background of evergreen planting.

Acer trees can  look particularly spectacular in the Autumn. Here Acer palmatum 'dissectum' is gradually changing into its Autumn glory.

In the space of one week in October, this Fothergilla major changed from green to a lovely mix of red, gold and green to enhance any shrub border. This shrub also pays dividends in Spring.
